Staff Report

Thanks to great sponsors like Charlie’s Automotive, the Swanton Corn Festival, which will take place Saturday, Aug. 20 , will not only offer many of the same things that you look forward to, but will also have a few additions this year.

The festival will again be having the Swanton Corn Art Exhibit Booth. They are looking for all and any kind of craft or artwork that uses corn or has corn as its theme. Any medium will be accepted including but not limited to art glass, ceramics, fairy gardens, painting, sketches, photography, needlework, sculptures or crafty items.

They will accept work from all ages. There is no entry fee and first, second and third place ribbons will be awarded. Currently there will be no class or age divisions. Questions should be directed to Pam Kazmierczak at [email protected] You can also find the registration form at swantoncornfest .com.

The Youth Corn Hole tournament was a huge success last year so it will again take place in the afternoon. This tournament will be open to anyone 20 years of age or younger. If interested, you should contact Alan Robasser at [email protected]

The entertainment line up will guarantee a great day for any age or interest. A few of the highlights include “Mess with Emily” and “The Harley Packer Band” in the beer tent; hometown favorites Brad Shreves, Rag Time Rick and Bob Wurst on Stage 1; and the cheerleaders, Patrick the Magician, Corn Wars ( a new and improved Corn Olympics) and the Eating Contest on Stage 2.

New to stage 2 will be the Delta and Maumee community bands. Starting at 5:30 p.m., the Delta Community Band directed by Bev Earnst will be providing entertainment on Stage 2 which has been moved to accommodate room for blankets and lawn chairs. It will be located in the same general area of the festival, but now it will be across the walkway, behind the horseshoe pits.

Following the Delta band will be the Maumee Community Band starting at 7 p.m. The addition of both groups provides the perfect opportunity to grab something to eat and sit down to enjoy some great band music. There will also be bleacher seating as always there as well.

Entertainment will continue until 8 p.m. on both stage 1 and 2 and to midnight in the beer tent. Check swantoncornfest.com for more information and entry forms.
