The Swanton Public Library has announced its adult programs for the month of October.
Ugly Pumpkin Contest
Keep an eye out through the month of October – the Ugly Pumpkins are invading. Patrons are invited to stop in and guess the weight of the library’s ugly pumpkins to win one of two Scare Packages: One for the whole family, and one just for the adults.
Don’t have time for a proper campaign? Join one of our librarians for a mini-dungeon or two!
The library’s own professional dungeon master will be on hand on Oct. 4 and 18 starting at 5 p.m. to help you on your evening adventures. This program is free to attend and no registration is required.
Swanton Area Robotics Club
The Swanton Area Robotics Club is open to everyone both new and experiences. This program is open to everyone age 17 and up and is free to attend. No registration required.
They will meet on Monday, Oct. 10, starting at 5 p.m.
Seam-Rippers Sewing Club
Do you have some free time in the mornings and want to brush up on your sewing skills? Do you have some sewing projects and just want a little company while you work?
The Seam Rippers are back this month on Oct. 5 at 10:30 a.m. No registration is required and walk-ins are encouraged. Packed lunches are welcome and encouraged. All you need is yourself and your newest sewing project.
Gretchen’s Book Club
Gretchen’s Book Club will meet on the second Thursday in October, the 13th, at 5:30 p.m. September’s book is “Close Your Eyes, Hold Hands,” a thriller/coming of age novel by Chris Bohjalian.
Copies of the book in multiple formats are available behind the front desk, so stop in and check out your copy today.
It’s that time of year again: The season of bonfires, pumpkin spice, and everything autumn. Join a local card making expert on Oct. 20 at 5 p.m. to make three cards on a fall theme.
Class fee is $7 per person, but all supplies are provided. Please note that your finished result may not match exactly with the examples provided.
Halloween Anime Matinee
On Oct 31 from 4-6 p.m. there will be a creepy anime marathon. Stop by the library, enjoy a spread of refreshments, and enjoy an episode or two of a playlist curated by librarians.
All ages welcome from 4-5 p.m., but 5-6 p.m. is suggested for teenagers and adults. No registration is necessary.
Chess Club is open to beginners and seasoned chess players alike, and meets in the library every Wednesday at 5 p.m.
The Swanton Historical Society will meet every Friday at 10 a.m. Anyone interested in joining or volunteering with the Historical Society is encouraged to attend.
The local Writers Group will meet Thursdays the 6th and 20th at 5:30 p.m. and writers of all skill levels are encouraged to stop in. Local knitters are back again from 5-6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays the 12th and 26th. Fiber artists of all levels are invited to join—spinners, weavers and crocheters also invited.
