Josh Eppert, Swanton High School English Language Arts teacher, last week was presented with the Rotary’s new “Golden Apple” award.
The club presented Eppert with a golden apple and a $500 honorarium for his efforts in the classroom with the students of Swanton High School. Eppert has been teaching at SHS since 2007, and he told the club that he could not think of any better occupation than teaching. He attributed the joy he receives from his work to the fortunate circumstance of getting to work with the fine young men and women of Swanton.
The Golden Apple Award is a new element resulting from the Rotary Club reinstating an old tradition; the SHS Senior Student of the Month award. Throughout the 2015-16 school year the club recognized two seniors each month for their outstanding performance in the classroom.
Each student of the month was required to do a speech, and within the speech honor a current Swanton Local School District teacher as one who had the most influence on their student career in Swanton. From those honored, the Rotary Club selected the teacher to recognize with the Golden Apple Award.
Swanton Rotary Club Senior Students of the Month for the 2015-16 school year were: Jensyn Huffman and Jordan Furko; Kathryn Dzyak and Kyle Ricker; Oliva Walters and Tyler Bolyard; Lindsey Fickel and Claire Leidigh; Eric Slink and Robert Gilsdorf; Noelle Vidak and Morgan Dickman; Andrew Schock and Megan Chonko Silas Kreuz and Alaina Sayre; and Olivia Wood and Hannah Gombash.
