The unemployment rate in Fulton County was up slightly in June, but still down from last year, according to data released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.

The county’s jobless rate in June was 3.8%, according to the civilian labor force estimates. That is up from 3.3% in May, but lower than last June when it was 5.6%.

The estimates show 800 people were unemployed in the county last month.

In Lucas County, the rate in June was 4.6% in June, which was up from 3.7% in May. Last June, the unemployment rate in the county was 7.1%.

Among the state’s 88 counties, preliminary June 2022 unemployment rates ranged from a low of 2.9% in Mercer County to a high of 6.4% in Cuyahoga County. From May, unemployment rates increased in all 88 counties. The comparable unemployment rate for Ohio was 4.5% in June.

Eleven counties had unemployment rates at or below 3.5% in June. The counties with the lowest rates, other than Mercer were: Holmes, Putnam, and Wyandot, 3.0%; Auglaize, Delaware, and Union, 3.3%; Hancock, 3.4%; and Madison, Preble, and Wayne, 3.5%.

Four counties had unemployment rates at or above 6.0% in June. The counties with the highest rates, other than Cuyahoga were: Monroe, 6.1% and Lorain and Meigs, 6.0%.

Ohio’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 3.9% in June, unchanged from May. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment decreased 11,300 over the month, from a revised 5,476,700 in May to 5,465,400 in June 2022.

The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in June was 224,000, down from 226,000 in May. The number of unemployed has decreased by 81,000 in the past 12 months from 305,000. The June unemployment rate for Ohio decreased from 5.3% in June 2021. The U.S. unemployment rate for June 2022 was 3.6%, unchanged from 3.6% in May 2022, and down from 5.9% in June 2021.

In June 2022, the labor force participation rate in Ohio was 62.0%, unchanged from May and up from 61.7% in June 2021. During the same period, the national labor force participation rate was 62.2%, down from 62.3% in May 2022 and up from 61.6% in June 2021.
