Swanton Council approves new fire chief

Ed Dziengelewski was approved by Village Council last week as the new Fire Chief for the Swanton Fire and Rescue Division. He was recommended by Mayor Neil Toeppe following a search.

Councilman Derek Kania moved to hire Dziengelewski and Council voted to approve the hire, effective May 15, at a pay rate of $62,000. A statutory probation period is included.

The employment offer is contingent on Captain Dziengelewski’s spouse resigning from Fire and Rescue Division due to the village Fraternization Policy. Amy Dziengelewski submitted a resignation by email and Council was expected to approve it at Monday’s meeting.

Chief Dziengelewski has been a firefighter for 27 years. The last 10 years he has been with the Swanton Fire and Rescue Division and has a continuous record of advancement, according to Toeppe. He has served as a firefighter, lieutenant and was appointed captain by former interim Chief Mike Wolever.
