Local Cub Scouts earn rare award

Four local Cub Scouts were recently recognized for their extraordinary efforts to earn a rare award.

Scouts O. Berman, A. Hand, K. Hand, and K. Vogel, all members of Cub Scout Pack 208 sponsored by American Legion Post 479, earned the Dr. Charles H. Towns Supernova Award, which recognizes standout achievement in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) related activities. The awards were presented by an Erie Shores Council Supernova Mentor Nancy Vogel.

To be eligible for the Supernova Award Scouts must earn the STEM patch and complete a series of six requirements including a personal interview. Award consideration paperwork had to go through four layers of review and approval. All of these Cubs had to earn at least one rank-specific adventure, learn about famous scientists, participated in a science experiment and connect with their teachers.

Previously these same young men earned the Dr. Luis W. Alvarez Supernova Award.

Pack 208 would like to congratulate these Scouts on this rare achievement. They also thanked Supernova Mentor Nancy Vogel for her time and efforts.
