Grant helps bring art classes to Swanton

No cost to participate

The Swanton Area Chamber of Commerce recently was awarded a Fund Every County grant from the Ohio Arts Council. In continuing the chamber’s effort to bring awareness to the arts in Swanton, the grant allows the chamber to offer free art classes for the young and young at heart.

The Arts Council reached out to the chamber after hearing about the Juried Fine Art Exhibits held in Swanton the last two years.

The chamber will provide all the materials for the classes at no cost to the participants. All that will be necessary is an interest in exploring acrylic painting for adults and drawing for the youth.

These classes will be led by award winning artist Nora Sallows.

Seating is limited to the first 20 adults and youth in each class on a first come, first served basis. If you’d like to register Call Neil at the chamber, 419-826-1941, to register or email

Deadline for registration is Monday, May 2.

Kids, Grades 5-8

A free four-week drawing course will be held on Saturday mornings, exploring line, perspective and shapes. It will be held May 7, 14, 21, 28 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Swanton Public Library, 305 Chestnut St.

Painting for beginners classes will be held for adults. Attendees can learn to relax and explore color with acrylic paint. It will be held Monday evenings, May 9, 16, 23, and June 6 from 6:30-8 p.m. at the library.

In this class you will follow along as an experienced instructor guides you in a step-by-step process through the creation of a painting. Learn how to mix and blend colors. The classes will focus on landscape painting but you can use what you learn to paint any subject.

The kids class will build on each session, but the adult class could be open to more people—in other words, if someone only wants to attend one or two classes there would be an opportunity for someone else to participate because each class uses a unique image and results in a finished piece.
