SMS students read to kindergartners


Kevin Heintschel’s sixth grade reading lab reads “The Gruffalo” to Renee Bardwell’s kindergarten class at Swanton Elementary School via Zoom on Thursday. Wednesday they read with the Flat Rock Elementary kindergarten class in Powhatan, Virginia. The idea came through Heintschel connecting with fellow educators on Twitter. He said it is one way he and his students can give back despite the challenges of COVID. As sixth grader Nate Jordan said Thursday, “We are doing this so other kids get a chance to be read to and get excited about reading.”
