Instead of having in-library parties during October, the Swanton Public Library is trying something different.
They will be holding virtual do-it-at-home book clubs for youth. And, everyone who participates gets to keep the book.
They will have four age categories: Grades K-3, grades 3-5, grades 5-8, and grades 9-12. There’s some overlap so kids can choose which book you’d prefer to read.
Every book will come with a blank review form, a few questions you can think about, and a small craft or activity that ties into the book.
The library will have a post for each book on www.splyouth.org for anyone who wants to discuss the book or comment on any of the questions or activities. Those who would prefer not to go online can fill out the included review sheets and get them back to the library.
Everyone who either posts on the site or brings back anything included with the book – even if it’s just a picture of the craft – will also get a small prize at the library.
The books are:
• Grades K-3: Mercy Watson to the Rescue by Kate DiCamillo.
• Grades 3-5: Dinosaurs Before Dark by Mary Pope Osborne.
• Grades 5-8: A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L’Engle.
• Grades 9-12: Sorcery of Thorns by Margaret Rogerson.
