Lucas SWCD Tree Sale underway

The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District is accepting mailed, drop-off, and online orders for the Annual Tree, Shrub, and Garden Sale.

All orders must be prepaid and received by Friday, March 27 to guarantee selection. After that date, they will take orders as supplies last.

This year’s sale features new, larger 4-foot trees including red chokecherry and exclamation planetree. Also available are various conifer species like Norway spruce, white pine, and bald cypress as well as a backyard habitat packet and several other shade trees and flowering shrubs. The District is also offering a windbreak special, which includes 100 Norway spruce seedlings for $50.

Native seed packets are available for purchase, which include wildflowers and grasses such as tall coreopsis, swamp milkweed, mountain mint, Jerusalem artichoke, blue vervain, big blue stem, and Indian grass. All of the native seeds were collected locally and are a part of the ecologically-diverse Oak Openings region.

Other items for sale include 55-gallon rain barrels, compost bins, marking flags, and tree shelters. The Tree Sale aims to give citizens affordable access to native and beneficial trees, shrubs, and seeds, as well as the knowledge of how these species fit within the region’s ecosystem.

All orders must be picked up, either at the Lucas SWCD office in Maumee or at Clay High School in Oregon. Delivery is not an option. For more information about the Tree, Shrub, and Garden Sale, visit or contact the office.
