Swanton Public Library announces February programs

The Swanton Public Library has announced its adult programs for the month of February, including canvas painting and senior assistance.


Mixed Level Hatha Yoga I & II will be held on Mondays, the 3rd, 10th, and 24th from 10:15-11:45 a.m. These sessions are slightly more advanced, providing an opportunity to expand participants’ skill levels. Class fee is $10 per session.

Hatha Yoga Basics will be offered on Thursdays, the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th from 10:15-11:45 a.m. Class fee is by donation, proceeds benefit the library.

Chair Yoga will be offered on Thursdays the 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th from noon to 1 p.m. Class fee is $5 per session.

Adult Book Club

The next Book Club meeting will be on Feb. 13 at 7 p,m. Join in an open discussion meeting to talk about the book club picks for 2019, books participants liked, and occasionally books they didn’t like—along with choosing the club pick for March.

This program is free and registration is not required.

Canvas Painting

Are you looking for a cute DIY present for a loved one on Valentine’s Day? Join Donna Mills and friends for a canvas painting class.

On Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m., participants will paint a llama in their own custom color palette and decorate in their own personalized style. Class fee is $25 per person, but all supplies are provided.

Children ages 8 and over are welcome accompanied by an adult. Space is limited. Stop in, call 419-826-2760, or register at www.swantonpubliclibrary.org.

Movie discussion

For February, the SPL movie discussion group will tackle an international award winner. “Possession” follows the troubled relationship between Anna (Isabelle Adjani) and Mark (Sam Neill) as their marriage falls apart after Anna admits an affair. But is she keeping an even bigger secret?

Stop by the library to pick up your copy of this horror/thriller to find out. The discussion is Friday, Feb. 21 at 2 p.m.

Copies are limited, and will be checked out on a first-come-first-served basis. This program is free to attend and no registration is required.

Senior Assistance

Val Edwards is back for the New Year. Fulton County residents aged 60 and older can find help with their most difficult Medicare and Social Security questions, along with other financial and health problems, like insurance, assistance programs, applications and more.

Edwards will be visiting the Swanton Public Library on Thursday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. To make an appointment, call Edwards at 419-337-9299.

Card making

Crafters in the card making class will focus on technique. February’s theme is fun folds.

Participants will learn creative folding methods to make pop-ups, creative opening designs, and more on Thursday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.

Cookbook club

February is always dreary, but mealtime doesn’t need to be. For February, the Toastbusters will tackle Kate McDermott’s “The Art of the Pie.”

After testing everyone’s culinary boundaries with some niche food, we thought it best to try something cozy. So join in on Monday, Feb. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

So stop in, check out a book, and sign up for your favorite recipe. Copies of February’s book are limited and are available behind the desk right now. This program is free to attend, but registration is required.

TV discussion

Follow the secret double-life of a young attorney as she moonlights as a high-end escort! This is a series contains multiple story lines, all following women who provide the ‘Girlfriend Experience’…for a price.

Head to the library on Friday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m to participate in discussion of the first season of ‘The Girlfriend Experience.’ Copies are available behind the desk, but are limited. This program is free to attend and no registration is necessary.

Ongoing programs

Chess Club meetings are on Wednesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturdays at 1 p.m. Players of all skill levels are invited.

A knitting group will meet on the 5th, and 19th at 6:30 p.m. and it isn’t just for knitters. Crochet enthusiasts are also encouraged and welcome.

The Writers Group will meet Thursdays the 13th and 27th at 7 p.m. Join local freelance author Nathan Jacobs and other aspiring writers to help polish up your own work. All skill levels are welcome to join.

Interested in all kinds of fiber arts? Led by Linda Carter, this group meets on the fourth Feb. 22 between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
