Updates given on Memorial Park plans

Staff Report

Swanton Village Council held a relatively light meeting on Jan. 27.

Administrator Rosanna Hoelzle gave some updates during her report. The Memorial Park steering committee is reviewing options for next steps, realizing that drainage improvements will be needed before there are any major updates.

The drainage work may be eligible for a Ohio Department of Natural Resources NatureWorks grant. Applications are due in June, with funding information available in October.

Playground improvements are another possibility.

Also, documentation has been submitted to Norfolk Southern related to repair of Dodge Street and near the practice football field. The estimated cost is $75,000-$85,000.

Information was also submitted for a variable frequency drive that was damaged by the power outage. The cost to replace was just under $3,200.

Swanton Shines plans this year’s tree lighting for Nov. 27.

Council approved the second reading of an ordinance accepting the annexation of one acre of land on County Road H.

Prior to the regular meeting, the Public Service Committee discussed possible street lights at the corners of Airport Highway and Munson Road and Airport Highway and Browning Road.

They also discussed the village applying to HGTV’s Hometown Takeover.
