Swanton Council limits use of unimproved alleys

The Swanton Village Council on Nov. 11 passed the third and final reading of an ordinance related to unimproved streets or alleys. The ordinance states that no person or entity shall without the permission of Swanton Village Council use an unimproved street or alley for vehicular travel or parking nor obstruct an unimproved street or alley in the Village of Swanton.

Council also approved a pair of emergency ordinances for fire contracts. They authorized the village administrator to enter into contracts for fire protection and rescue services with both Swancreek and Fulton townships.

An emergency temporary appropriations ordinance and emergency resolution allowing the administrator to dispose of surplus property not needed, meter radio reads.

Other business

• Council approved the second reading of a yearly ordinance to enter into an agreement with Fulton County Commissioners to provide indigent legal services in Eastern District Court.
• The second reading of an ordinance to appoint a village solicitor and establish compensation was approved with no change from 2019.
• A second reading was approved for an ordinance authorizing the administrator to enter into an agreement for prosecutorial services for the village.
• Council approved moving Ed Markel of the police division from part time to full time, effective Jan. 12, pending background check and exams.
• August 14-15 were approved for Corn Festival activities in Memorial Park.
