A plane approaching Toledo Express Airport crashed early Wednesday, killing both people on board. A Convair 440 crashed at Bubba’s Diesel and Auto, 10101 Garden Road, around 2:37 a.m.

The plane impacted multiple unoccupied vehicles at the business, which resulted in a significant fire. Multiple agencies responded to the scene to provide firefighting coverage.

Due to the proximity of the incident, the 180 Fighter Wing fire department was the first agency to arrive on-scene and took command of the situation. The 180FW responded within three minutes with a 12-person team that included a fire truck, one pick-up truck, one rescue truck, one water truck, two rapid intervention vehicles, one airport response vehicle, and one air cart.

Two fatalities have been confirmed. Douglas R. Taylor, 72, and Donald C. Peterson, Sr., 69, of Laredo, Texas were the two on board the plane when it crashed.

The aircraft departed from Millington, Tennessee. The NTSB is investigating the accident.
