Gary and Gail Phipps have been named grand marshals of the 2019 Swanton Corn Festival parade.
Gary and Gail are longtime Swanton residents, both Swanton High School graduates and have been married for 51 years. They have one daughter, Anna, married to JP Zin, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Gary works at Scottdel in Swanton. He is proud to have been with the company and the Carson family for 41 years.
In 1994 Gary was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Unlike many other companies, Scottdel encouraged him to keep working and they’ve supported him ever since.
Gary served on Swanton Council for eight years during the 70s. He was privileged to be mentored by senior village officials and local business owners during the purchase of the empty Conrail property on Chestnut Street. That property now contains Swanton’s administrative offices, Pilliod Park and the public library.
Gail studied art education at the University of Toledo and enjoys a variety of artistic hobbies. After working at Swanton Public Library for 17 years, she retired the end of May 2018.
Gary and Gail enjoy working in their yard together and supporting local restaurants. They’re happy to live in Swanton, surrounded by their family and friends.
