The Lucas Soil and Water Conservation District (Lucas SWCD) has announced the first-ever Lucas SWCD Day at the Lucas County Fair will be Friday.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. are residents are invited to visit the Ag Entities Building where they can find something for the entire family. Educational activities and crafts will be available for kids, while adults can learn about different conservation practices through interactive demonstrations.
During one of the demonstrations, Lucas SWCD representatives will use a rainfall simulator to show the effectiveness of cover crops and conservation tillage in reducing runoff and erosion on farm fields. They will also have information about how to conserve and protect natural resources in your own backyard through planting natives, installing a rain barrel, and composting.
Questions are encouraged — the Lucas SWCD Board and staff, as well as local experts from the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Natural Resources Conservation Service, will be available throughout the day. Information on current agricultural assistance programs will also be available.
