Area artist Kay Weprin will share her works of handmade paper during the Visiting Artist series at the Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) Family Center Friday, July 26 at 6 p.m. The free event, held the last Friday of the month, offers families the opportunity to hear directly from local artists and musicians.
Taking images from her travels and mixing them with layers of different viewpoints and contrasting perspectives, Weprin creates a unique artistic story all of its own.
“My artwork is a story about reality and imagination,” Weprin said. “By using bold colors, gestural lines and shapes, the two realms emerge. I construct an abstract view of my world through expressive marks which capture the emotional essence of a place or experience.”
The Visiting Artist series offers an opportunity for both children and their adult caregivers to see the importance of art at a young age and how they can nurture the talent of their young children,” explained Regina Jankowski, Family Center Manager.
The Family Center is a free drop-in, hands-on art studio and play space for families with young children. Families work together to create works of art using a wide variety of medium. The Family Center is open on Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Fridays from 3:30 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
