Patrol investigating three vehicle fatal crash

SYLVANIA TWP. – A Swanton man was involved, but not injured, in a fatal crash on Central Avenue early Monday morning.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Anthony Shimman, 24, of Sylvania, was driving a 2014 Ford Focus on Central Avenue near Centennial Road and traveled left of center. His vehicle then struck a 2007 Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by Michael Bartick, 51, of Fayette. The Kenworth then struck a 2003 Chevy Tahoe, driven by John Daubenmeyer Jr., 53, of Swanton.

Shimman suffered fatal injuries and was transported to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office. Daubenmeyer and Bartick were not injured.

Approximately 150 gallons for diesel fuel spilled onto the roadway. The Environmental Protection Agency responded to the scene to aid with the cleanup.

At this time, no citations have been issued for the crash; it remains under investigation.

Alcohol and drug use did not factor in the crash, according to authorities. Seat belts were in use by all parties.
