Blue Week, a celebration of the Oak Openings Region is being marked this week with events throughout the area.
Numerous organizations in Ohio and Michigan are working together to provide a wide variety of family experiences in this unique and important natural region. They include walks, talks, a bonfire, a bike ride, an archery program and more.
There will be several events at Oak Openings Metropark and others at Secor Metropark, Maumee State Forest, and Kitty Todd Nature Preserve.
On Friday at 7 p.m. at Oak Openings Metropark, celebrate the beauty of the Oak Openings with, friends and food. After the “In Your Footsteps” hike, the Green Ribbon Initiative will connect the past to future conservation efforts by announcing awards for those that have contributed to the conservation of the Oak Openings.
Awards include the Blue Week photo contest youth and adult winners, landowner of the year award, and conservation partner of the year award.
