The Swanton Tree Commission will collaborate with Swanton Local School District for two Arbor Day events on Friday.
Beginning at 9 a.m. at Pilliod Park on Chestnut Street, over 90 students from Swanton Middle School will work alongside the Swanton Tree Commission to perform a tree audit for Pilliod and Rotary Parks. This will include identifying, measuring, and determining a value for all the trees in these parks.
The result will be to determine the monetary input and value to the community of the trees there.
Following that event, at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Swanton Tree Commission will head to Swanton Middle School and plant a new tree in celebration of Arbor Day and in support of the Tree Commission’s mission of managing the urban forest in the Village of Swanton.
The community is invited to attend both events, but in particular, the tree planting at Swanton Middle School.
