Swanton police officer placed on leave following domestic violence charge

A Swanton police officer is on unpaid leave after charges against him were filed in Oregon Municipal Court. Kevin Howard, 31, was charged with domestic violence, a first degree misdemeanor.

The charges allege that Howard knowingly caused or attempted to cause physical harm to a family or household member, in this case, an infant.

He was arrested and booked into Lucas County Corrections Center on April 5, according to Oregon Municipal Court records. An own-recognizance bond was issued.

Howard was placed on unpaid administrative leave by the Village of Swanton on April 5, according to administrator Rosanna Hoelzle. He was hired by the Swanton Police Department in November 2018.

A pretrial hearing is scheduled for April 23 in Oregon Municipal Court
