A sweep at Swanton High School on Wednesday was not related to a report of threats at the school on Tuesday, according to Swanton Superintendent Chris Lake.
‘Today at the high school we had a planned sweep of the building and parking lot with various K-9 units from the area,” Lake said. “These are fairly routine and we try to do them yearly if possible.”
He added they cannot be announced to the public ahead of time because it would defeat the purpose of the exercise.
“Today’s exercise had been planned by [High School Principal] Jason Longbrake several weeks ago and had nothing to do with yesterday’s events,” said Lake.
Both the high school and the parking lot were free of any illegal substances, according to a district Facebook post.
On Tuesday, a student was taken into custody following allegations of threats against students and staff.
“I want to thank the young men and women who brought this matter forward to their principal so that it could be quickly dealt with,” Lake said. “To the parents of Swanton, rest assured that we continue to make student safety a top priority.”
