Community input sought on Memorial Park

Staff Report

A poll concerning the Memorial Park Master Plan is available to Swanton residents, Village Administrator Rosanna Hoelzle reported at last Monday’s Council meeting.

A community forum was held Feb. 28 and Hoelzle was pleased with the attendance and feedback. Ideas suggested for the park included disc golf, a splash pad, an amphitheater, and improvements to parking, restrooms, ball fields, and tennis courts.

Hard copies of the poll are available at the municipal building, 219 Chestnut St., and the Swanton Public Library, 305 Chestnut St. It is available online at http://villageofswantonohio.us/news/announcement/.

She also reported that two variances had been approved at the March Planning Commission meeting. A request from Benfield Wines to sell alcohol at 102-104 N. Main Street was approved. More information on plans for the site should become available in the coming weeks.

The Commission also approved a variance for an accessory structure projecting into the front or side yard at 117 Lincoln Ave.

Hoelzle reported that brush pick up is going to be evaluated in order to improve the efficiency in the future. She thanked the community for their patience as crews worked to pick up brush after two storms.

Council also approved the second reading of an ordinance regarding the vacation of the unimproved portion of Roosevelt Street and alley and a permanent appropriations ordinance, by emergency.
