SPL offers kids fun events

Staff report

The Swanton Public Library will present fun and educational events for kids this winter between Jan. 7 and Feb. 14.

“Once Upon a Story,” for ages 3-5, meets Monday mornings at 10:30 a.m. in the children’s program room.

”Tales for Tots,” for ages 6 months through 5 years old, meets Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. in the library community room, and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. in the children’s program room. Ages 2 and under must have an attending adult.

Children in grades K-5 are invited to celebrate science at the library on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 10:30 a.m. This free event includes science experiments, a story, and a make-your-own-lava-lamp craft. Warning: Don’t wear nice clothes, as things are going to explode!

“Paws to Read” combines kids, dogs, and books. Children can improve reading skills by signing up to read aloud in single or shared 15-minute slots to Charlie, a certified Australian shepherd therapy dog. Saturdays, Jan. 12 and Jan. 26, at 10:30 a.m.; six slots are available.

Watch three free episodes of anime Wednesday, Jan. 23, 4-5:30 p.m. They will be chosen by the attendees or by the random button. Japanese food, snacks, and drinks will be provided. No registration required.
