Swanton High School Accounting students were recently invited to the Spangler Candies Corp. by CFO Matt Dixon for a tour of the manufacturing and inventory operations. Students were shown the process of the Dum Dum lollipop line and the candy cane line from a cost/efficiency perspective, and how investment in certain technologies not only pay for themselves over time, they limit waste for a cleaner environment.
Spangler Candies is the leading producer of lollipops and candy canes in the country. The company produces twelve million Dum Dum’s and four million candy canes each per day, and export to fifty four different countries.
Swanton Accounting is a program enrolled through College Credit plus, and is funded through the Penta Career Center. Students are receiving college accounting credits through their high school course work.
