A new park has been opened near Toledo Express Airport by Metroparks of Toledo. Westwinds Park is located at 9918 Geiser Road and is open from April through mid-November.
Westwinds is located in the Oak Openings Corridor between Oak Openings Preserve and Secor Metropark.
What makes Westwinds unique is that it offers the region’s only public static archery range and 3D archery course. Visitors can bring their own archery equipment and use the range during open hours, or attend special programming offered through Metroparks, generally by reservation. Outdoor Skills programs are listed at www.MetroparksPrograms.com for upcoming programs.
Westwinds is also home to the Flying Tigers Model RC Club, and its members can often been seen flying their remote-control aircraft from the airstrip that they maintain.
Westwinds is a carry in and carry out park; trash must be taken when leaving the park.
Also, the Fallen Timbers Battlefield Metropark on Jerome Road in Maumee is also open to visitors. Visitors will learn about the 1794 battle that took place in the woods, leading to the westward expansion of the United States.
