The Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church in Swanton is building a new facility. A groundbreaking ceremony was held earlier this month.
The church has been at its current location, 200 Dodge St., since August of 1959. The congregation owns land located on Dodge Street (County Road H), west of Munson Road. It is located just within the village limits in Swanton.
“It is hard to say goodbye to a building that has been the location of so many life passages and events,” said Pastor Ed Strietelmeier. “We recognize that God is calling us into something new.”
The current location of The Faith Evangelical Lutheran Church was constructed in 1892, and enlarged in 1900. It was formerly St. Richard Catholic Church.
Due to the building’s age, it is inaccessible to some of the elderly and handicapped. The size is also difficult to work around activities and ministries.
“The new location will be a one level and completely accessible with a great deal of multi-purpose space,” explained Strietelmeier. Faith Lutheran is excited to have same street parking and more land to hold activities, he added.
Strietelmeier said that Faith Lutheran recognizes that a building is not the church. The church is built from the people of God who come together to follow God’s son Jesus Christ, he added. The new building is simply a tool to help with this gathering, and make new memories.
The new building is projected to open in late summer 2019.
