• Swanton High School to present “Once Upon a Mattress.”

• The 2008 inductees into the Swanton High School Athletic Hall of Fame were Nathan Bolling, Angel Campesino, Bob Fisher, Jim Kirtz and Jackie (McGhee) Schultz.

• Swanton Park and Recreation Board authorized slam dunk basketball hoops, supports and poles to be erected in Memorial Park.

• Anna Serratos and Rebecca Nelson were selected by the Swanton American Legion Auxiliary as delegates for Buckeye Girls State.

• Swanton Local Schools placed a bond issue on the ballot to fund a news elementary school and an addition to Park Elementary School. Crowded classrooms and poor classroom facilities at the 1904 building were cited as reasons.

• Swanton Pharmacy, 99 N. Main St., offered a Chocolate Zoo of Easter Animals for 10 cents to $1.98.

75 Years Ago

• Nineteen counties in Fulton County were to be blacked out in a test designed by the state defense council to prepare rural areas for possible use of incendiary phosphorous bombs by enemy agents to burn wheat fields and destroy crops. Every resident was expected to cooperate.
• Showing at the La France Theater in Swanton was “Springtime in the Rockies,” with Betty Grable, John Payne, Carmen Miranda, and Cesar Romero.

• Members of the Whitehouse and Waterville high school graduating classes visiting Washington were injury shortly after arrival when a platform they were standing on collapsed.

• Two millions trees were planted in Ohio as part of a reforestation.
