• In Swanton, 47 percent of students passed all four parts of the ninth grade proficiency test. Pettisville, 50 percent, and Archbold, 48 percent were higher in the county. At Evergreen 32 percent passed all four, Anthony Wayne 33 percent, and at Delta 30 percent.
• Raymond “Rusty” Orben is appointed as a Page in the U.S. House of Representatives.

• Don Coleman, a Swanton resident and the longtime meteorologist at Toledo airports, retired after 36 years on the job. Coleman also did weather reports for WSPD radio.
• Murphy’s Ben Franklin, Cordes Jewelers, K-C Lanes, Purdy’s Clothing, Paul’s Flowers, and Leu’s Dress Shop were among the Swanton business to offer Valentine’s Day specials.

• Six grades of Swanton School will present “The Chimes of Normandy,” an operetta in two acts at the school auditorium.

• LaFrance Theater in Swanton was showing “Flight Command” and “Bitter Sweet.”

• Leo Koepfer has purchased from The Empire Petroleum Co. the corner business property at Main and Dodge streets.
