• Swanton Council proceeded with water line projects on County Road 2, Airport Highway.

• Supporters rallied to get lights and gates installed the Conrail crossing on County Road 4. During the rally, Conrail crew members on a passing train held up a sign that read, “Idiots.”

• Young Adult Award winners at St. Richard School were Susan Buckenmeyer, Amy Wesolowski and Bryan Long.

• An open house was scheduled for the new Crestwood Elementary School.

• Ken Najarian was named head football coach for Swanton High School.

• A dike breakage at the Swanton Reservoir lowered the local water reserve by 100 million gallons to just 40 million.

• Forest Fire Control entered its second year at Oak Openings. It included a fire tower that had a watchman on duty during all daylight hours when weather conditions created a fire hazard, and 45 deputy forest fire wardens.
• Edwin Green and Orvlle Gearig were reported wounded in action.
• Playing at the LaFrance Theatre in Swanton was “3 is a Family” starring Marjorie Reynolds and Charles Ruggles.

• The Hi-Y organization formed in Swanton School.
• Property owners submitted a petition to pave St. Clair Street from Main Street to Wayne Street.
