• Chrys Peterson of Channel 11 News was the grand marshal of the Christmas in Swanton parade. The parade began at the American Legion, traveled south on Hallett Avenue, then west on Airport Highway, before turning north on Main Street and heading through downtown Swanton.

• Swanton’s Jeremiah Taylor was named the the All-NWOAL first team for football.

• Richard S. Biehl was awarded the Golden Deeds Award of the Swanton Exchange Club for outstanding civic achievement.

• Swanton Village Council enacted a 1 percent income tax.

• It was announced that Swanton schools would be closed from Dec. 16 to the end of the year because of lack of funds to meet the second payroll in December.
