Annual Tombstone Bike Tour returns

The 32nd Annual Tombstone Bike Tour will be held this Saturday in the area. The bicycle tour takes riders from Secor Metropark to Oak Openings Metropark and back, a distance of 38 miles.

In keeping with the Halloween theme riders are encouraged to to get into the spirit by dressing up in bike safe costumes.

The well-marked route winds past 11 cemetaries in western Lucas County and eastern Fulton County. Riders will be provded with a map and route notes.

There will also be stops at Oak Openings Metropark for lunch and at MacQueen's Orchard for cider and cookies.

Prizes will be awarded to the top three adult "bike safe" Halloween costumes and completiton of the graveside sighting adventure.

Registration begins at 11 a.m.

The cost will be $25 for adults and $5 for children 10 and under. The fee includes a map, route notes, the foot stops and sag wagon coverage.

The cemetaries include Swanton, Byrd Family, Wolfinger, Winslow, Sharples, Waterville, Whitehouse, Mennonite, Immaculate Conception, Civil War and Burchfield Family.

Family Haunted Ride

For those with young children, a Family Haunted Bike Ride with a Metroparks naturalist and ranger is available the same day at Oak Openings.

Come dressed in your "bike safe costume" and join in the fun of this family bike event which will cover 3 to 5 miles of haunted trail all within Oak Openings Metropark. Celebrate Halloween with spooky folk lore and stories. Learn why witch hazel is called witch hazel.

Along the way you will explore the Prairie Sand Dunes, Wabash Cannonball Trail, the Pine Forest and more. At the end of the trail you will be greeted by witches, ghosts and goblins who will serve you a bowl of the famous Tombstone Tour chili, PB&J, fruit, cookies and hot/cold drinks.
