Sinkhole at Swanton running track repaired

A sinkhole that forced Swanton to cancel home track and field meets this past spring has been filled.

There were concerns that a waterline was at fault for the sinkhole. But it was tested multiple times and was working properly, according to Athletic Director Tim Zieroff.

Apparently, the earth under the track moved, causing tile to break and creating the hole. Zieroff said it was nobody's fault and characterized it as an act of nature.

The hole has been filled and the asphalt is in place. Installing the actual rubber of the track is the next and final step.

At this time it looks like the school district will have to foot the bill for the repair. The cost is unknown at this time because the district has not received an invoice, according to Superintendent Paulette Baz.
