Recognition to special people in Fulton County

The people have once again spoken, It's also a safe bet almost everyone is relieved the 2008 General Election is over. We watched, listened and debated through a long and tumultuous campaign, which started 22 months ago and ended with Senator Barack Obama as the victor. The negative advertising campaigns, debates, Joe the Plumber, Sarah's clothing and more... all are now footnotes as we try and move forward on the road to recovery. Yet, before the election dims in our memories there are some special people in Fulton County who deserve recognition and congratulations.

First and foremost, congratulations to everyone who voted . You turned out in high numbers, 73 percent in all, to cast ballots. Despite occasionally long lines you demonstrated patience and perseverance in your desire to vote. Many of us believe this was one of the most important elections in our lifetime, because so much rides on the decisions of the next President of the United States, the U.S. Senate and the U.S. Congress.

Working the way up the ladder, we need to recognize and congratulate the diligent and dedicated poll workers who assisted voters. They showed tremendous patience and professionalism.

The next rung up the ladder is for congratulations to the county's board of election office. Your organization, efficiency at processing ballots, and timely delivery of the results to the pubic was terrific. The local news media, both newspapers and radio, appreciate the courtesy you extended to our reporters. Our county has fortunately been blessed with a long line of talented board members and directors.

Finally, congratulations to those who won election. We hope you know you've been given a contract by voters. This is a contract that asks for your honestly, openness and integrity.
