Veteran's Day gift: Vets now permitted to salute
Retired soldiers are still proud and still serving their country. In recognition of their service to this nation the U.S. Congress has put "Still Saluting" into law. It's one of the few pieces of legislation everyone can agree with.
The 2008 National Defense Authorization Act changed a section of code covering conduct during the hoisting, lowering or passing of our flag. Now, during the ceremony, or when the flag is passing in a parade or review, veterans who are present, but not in uniform, may render the military salute.
On this Veteran's Day, this is a decision which respects what our veterans have done for this nation.
