Swanton wrestling wins Derr Invite

NORTHWOOD – Swanton finished with seven individual champions as they decisively won the 22-team Jim Derr Northwood Invitational which wrapped up Saturday.

At 120 pounds, Zack Schaller earned a victory by forfeit, then a pin, and a 3-1 decision over Luke Wamer of Lake to take first.

His brother Trevor Schaller clinched a first place finish at 126 pounds with three straight pins, the last coming over Otsego’s Cameron Pollard in 3:59.

Chase Moore also ended on three pins at 152 pounds. In the championship match he pinned Justin Cole of Lake in three minutes.

Ryan Marvin sealed the 160-pound championship with pins against Marc Spindler of Oak Harbor and Michael LeVally of Oregon Clay, and a 14-1 major decision over Monjuan Walker of Bowsher.

Swanton’s Mitchell Reisinger won a pair of victories in overtime and also a pin en route to taking first at 170 pounds. In the final match, he won 3-1 in overtime over Otsego’s Cole Steele.

Crew Oberheim closed with two pins and a major decision to claim the 195-pound title. He pinned Ethan Hays of Riverdale in 2:13 in the title match.

In the heavyweight division, Tommy Lytle earned a win by forfeit, pinned Lamarcus Neal of Waite in 1:03, and defeated Noah Price of Fremont St. Joe 4-2 in overtime.

Earning runner-up for the Bulldogs were Dylan Cook at 132 pounds and Gage Pachlhofer at 145 pounds.

Tyler Anderson of Swanton took sixth at 138 pounds, while Zack Zawodni placed 12th at 182 pounds.

Evergreen placed 19th at the tournament with 56 points. The Vikings were led by Travis Mersing who took third at 138 pounds. He pinned Dawson Frederick of Anthony Wayne in the third place match.

Other placers for the Vikings were Joe Miller who placed ninth at 120 pounds, Colin Smith who took 11th at 126 pounds, Tony Boger who took seventh at 145 pounds, Corey Patterson who took ninth at 152 pounds, Logan York who took ninth at 195 pounds and Levi Moore who finished 11th at 285 pounds.
