Swanton boys basketball earned a 79-68 NWOAL win at Bryan on Friday, then hit the road again on Saturday and with the help of a 33-point scoring effort from Gunnar Oakes, defeated Genoa 59-57.
“We ran into a hot shooting Bryan team on friday. They came out and hit some shots early,” said head coach Matt Smith. “We flat out made some bad rotations on defense and played a little flat on defense. Luckily, Bryce (McComb) was hitting (shots) and had 20 first half points and Devin Jones had 8.”
It was McComb who scored 33 points against the Golden Bears while Robbie Gilsdorf and Jones each added 14.
McComb hit the game-winning shot against the Comets on Saturday and added 13 points. It was the Bulldogs’ seventh straight victory.
“Overall, happy to keep the win streak going,” said Smith. “We logged a ton of miles with three long road trips in five days so I am pleased. We are taking everyone’s best shot right now and that is a testament to the program and how well regarded these young men are.”
