Swanton wrestlers compete at large tournament

FAIRBORN, Ohio – The Swanton wrestling team put together a strong performance at the GMVWA Holiday Wrestling Tournament last Monday and Tuesday. The Bulldogs finished 13th overall in the 57 team tournament and fifth in the Division II and III portion.

J.D. Reisinger and Chase Moore led the Bulldogs with sixth place finishes. Reisinger advanced to the semifinal at 126 pounds but dropped his last three matches.

He pinned Noah Dotson of Pickerington Central in 3:17 to start the tournament. He followed that up with a quick 45-second pin of Joe Adams of Ryle.

In the quarterfinal, Reisinger topped Holden Macy of Athens 9-4. But in the semifinal he fell to Donte Castellano of Simon Kenton, Ky. 5-0.

Reisinger fell to the consolation bracket where he was pinned by Alex Lieb of Watkins Memorial in 2:57. He then dropped the fifth place match to Drew Saunier of Springboro by pin in 4:55.

In his first match at 132 pounds, Chase Moore topped Ben Boysel of Hudson 8-3. He then pinned John Forman of Centerville in 1:28.

In the quarterfinal, Moore fell to Jimmy Murphy of Milford 3-1. He then topped Braeden Lehman of Urbana 4-2 and Brandon Weaver of Eaton 8-4 in the consolation bracket.

But, he then defaulted and forfeited the last two matches to finish sixth.

Dillon Cook wrestled through the consolation bracket to finish sixth at 113 pounds for Swanton. Cook won his first bout by pin over Sawyer Garrison of Wilmington in 1:45, but fell to Matt Asher of Clinton-Massie 7-4.

Cook rebounded by pinning Caden Gurney of Mohawk in 1:38, topped Zane Rennie of Watkins Memorial 2-0, Oscar Santana of Glen Este by technical fall 18-3 and Ryan Whitten of Stebbins 3-2.

His run came to an end when he fell to Jakaria Hossan of Dublin Coffman 4-2 in overtime, however, Cook beat Drew Whaley of Troy Christian 11-4 to finish seventh.

The Bulldogs will open up league play on Thursday in a quad at Wauseon. On Friday and Saturday, they will compete the Woodmore “A” Classic.
