The Swanton Juried Fine Art Exhibit and Sale is just around the corner. The two day event will include 49 artists from 16 area communities presenting 131 pieces of art.

Swanton residents have the largest number of pieces entered with 36. That is followed closely by Toledo with 32 and then Perrysburg with 12 and Maumee with nine.

“I have received digital images of all of the art that will be exhibited and it is incredible,” said Swanton Area Chamber of Commerce president Neil Toeppe.

The judges in this year’s exhibit have seen their share of quality art. Jennifer Bandeen is the head judge.

Bandeen is the community gallary manager and outreach program manager at the Toledo Museum of Art. She has worked at the museum for over eight years and has juried multiple fine artist exhibitions as well as having her personal artwork accepted into numerous exhibitions.

Colleen Seambos, the glass studio manager at the Toledo Museum of Art is also a judge. She has been with the museum since 2011 and has planned curated group exhibitions in the Toledo area.

Jacqueline S. Nathan is the final judge. She has been gallery director at Bowling Green State University since 1985.

During that time she has curated more than 40 exhibitions, bringing such artists as Faith Ringgold, Carrie Mae Weems, Sandy Skogland, Mark Dion and Patrick Dougherty to Bowling Green for free public presentations and interactions with students and community members.

Nathan has served numerous times as a panelist for the Ohio Arts Council, was one of the founders of the Black Swamp Arts Festival and has juried a number of regional exhibitions.

Over $4,600 will be awarded in nine adult and four youth categories.

Last year’s inagural exhibit and sale went well, according to organizers.

“Besides the artists we attracted hundreds of guests to the one day exhibit,” said Toeppe. “Most of them were from communities outside of Swanton. We are absolutely thrilled that we are attracting such positive attention to the Swanton area.”

This year’s exhibit and sale will be held Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 18 from noon to 5 p.m. at Valleywood Golf Club. The exhibit is free to the public.

There will also be an Artist and VIP Reception on Friday evening at Valleywood. Tickets for the event are $15 and may be reserved by calling the Swanton Area Chamber of Commerce at 419-826-1941.
