The former owner of Swanton Welding was honored in Swanton last Monday as a street was renamed in his honor. Broadway Street was renamed Zeiter Way in honor of Norm Zeiter who passed away in 2014.

A brief ceremony was held at the corner of Main Street and Zeiter Way with a proclamation read by Swanton Mayor Ann Roth.

“Norm was a man of integrity, honor, and of a strong work ethic who gave unselfishly to his family, friends, and employees, who truly gave his life for others, and he will always be remembered lovingly by all who knew him and has left a great legacy for all to aspire to a life of service, it is that,” said Roth.

Norman D. Zeiter was born in 1952 and married Connie Kern in 1972. He became an employee of father-in-law George Kern at Swanton Welding and Machining and purchased the company in 1985.

“He grew the company from a four man welding shop to a very successful steel fabrication company with multiple locations,” Roth said.

The process to rename Broadway Street started several months ago after multiple citizens and a council member suggested honoring Zeiter to show appreciation for all of his generosity toward Swanton.

“After much discussion the council decided to rename Broadway to Zeiter Way,” said Craig Rose, Swanton Village Council president. “It was because of Norm’s selfless generosity to the Swanton community that we chose to honor him with a street name.”

He added that whenever any service organization or the village needed anything, Zeiter would jump in and help without hesitation.

“He used his knowledge and resources to better the lives of those around him, and for that many in Swanton are forever grateful,” said Rose. “He was pillar and a role model for how to not only run a successful business, but how to be a exemplary citizen and treat those around you.”
