County Democratic leaders have voiced their opposition to Secretary of State Jon Husted’s decision on the county charter government proposals. Husted has removed the proposals from the November ballot in Fulton and two other counties.
The party chairs of Fulton and Medina County said that Husted’s decision is arbitrary and an abuse of his legal authority and that he should only be examining the mechanical requirements of the petitions.
“By going beyond that and examining the substance of the petitions themselves, Secretary Husted exceeded his authority, and the Supreme Court should overrule his error,” said Frank Michalkiewicz, chairman of the Fulton County Democratic Party.
