The Mail Pouch Saloon opened in Swanton Thursday morning to a crowd waiting to sample their food and drinks. A ribbon cutting and grand opening celebration was held for the restaurant prior to opening.
Mail Pouch Saloon is located at the corner of Airport Highway and Hallett Avenue at the site of the former Shuckers Seafood and Pasta restaurant. After Jamie Wietrzykowski purchased the restraurant from retiring owners, Shuckers closed in early January and the inside of the building underwent a major facelift.
The upgrade is patterned after a saloon motif with photographs from Swanton’s past on the bar and walls and Old West touches throughout. An upgraded outdoor patio will feature a clear bar top holding 18,000 pennies arranged to offer hidden words, and swings replacing stools. The swings are customed designed with photos of Old West legends.
The menu is a hybrid of the former Shuckers and his current Mail Pouch Saloon. Pasta is out, but some of the popular items on the seafood menu, including the clam chowder, will remain. Wietrzykowski will also serve burgers, vegetarian and chicken, steaks, wraps, ribs, and wings.
Wietrzykowski operates another Mail Pouch Saloon in Haskins.
