Trustee races crowded in Lucas County


Four candidates have filed to run for two spots on the Swanton Township Board of Trustees this November. Incumbents Cynthia Burkey and Jeff Michael will receive challenges from Colleen M. Baird and William J. Schmidt.

In Spencer Township, six candidates have filed for the two trustee seats. Incumbents Michael B. Hood and Shawn P. Valentine will be challenged by Adam L. Thomas, Dean E. Croskey, Jacqueline Dale and Kris C. Ruhl.

Races in Harding Township are currently uncontested. Milton R. Keener and Michael J. Martinez are the only two to file in the race for two township trustee positions. Rebecca P. Henderly is the only person running for fiscal officer, according to the latest data from the Lucas County Board of Elections.

Jeffery C. Rae is running unopposed for mayor of Berkey.

In Richfield Township, Andrew J. Bick, Douglas A. Ronau, and Steve Bettinger are running for two township trustee seats.

The race for Sylvania Municipal Court judge is crowded, with Anthony P. Spinazze, Chris McGowen, Daniel T. Ellis, John Thebes, and Michael A. Bonfiglio all throwing their hats into the ring. Daniel G. Hazard and Gary L. Byers are running for Maumee Municipal Court judge.

There will be two countywide issues on the ballot this November for Lucas County voters.

One will be to help pay for a new jail. Voters will decide on a 1.9-mill levy for construction and expenses of a criminal justice facility.

Also on the ballot is a renewal levy for Metroparks of the Toledo Area for 10-years, at a rate of 1.4-mills.
