Evergreen board, unions approve agreement


Following an hour long executive session, the Evergreen Board of Education approved contracts with two unions.

The board last month approved the negotiated agreement between the board and the Evergreen Education Association as recommended by the board’s negotiation team and ratified by the union. The agreement includes a 2.75 percent increase on the base salary in 2015–2016, a 2.50 percent increase on the base salary for 2016–2017, and a 2 percent increase on the base salary for 2017–2018.

It also provides for an increase in the employee’s share of traditional health insurance premiums.

A negotiated agreement between the board the Evergreen Ohio Association of Public School Employees as recommended by the board’s negotiation team and ratified by the union. The agreement includes a 2.75 percent increase on the base salary in 2015–2016, a 2.50 percent increase on the base salary for 2016–2017, and a 2 percent increase on the base salary for 2017–2018.

Like the Evergreen Education Association Agreement, it also provides for an increase in the employee’s share of health insurance premiums.

Also at the meeting, the board accepted the resignation of teaching employee, Paul Yunker, effective on July 31 and the resignation of non-teaching employee, Cindy Schwen, effective June 30, for the purpose of retirement.

One-year limited teaching contracts were offered to Sharon Purdy, Aaron Schmidt and Alicia Ford.

The board also:

• Approved an athletic activity fee of $50 for the first sport and an extra $25 for multiple sports with a maximum of $75 per school year, per student. The fee structure was originally adopted in 2011.

• Authorized the superintendent and treasurer to purchase two 72-passenger propane fueled buses for a total of $173,326 from Cardinal Bus Sales & Service, Inc., in Lima, Ohio. This cost includes a total trade-in allowance of $4,800 for two old buses, and a $200 early pay discount on each bus purchased.

• Approved a one-year agreement between Mercy St Vincent Medical Center and Evergreen High School to provide athletic training services at a cost not to exceed $10,000.

• Authorized the treasurer to pay the 2015 – 2016 Northwest Ohio Computer Association (NWOCA) Membership fees of $40,129.22, which is a decrease of $1,095.28 from last year, and to approve the Technical Service Agreement authorizing the purchase of Gaggle archiving and IEP Anywhere.
