Two people killed in Turnpike crash


Two people were killed Wednesday in a one-vehicle accident on the Ohio Turnpike in Fulton County.

The Swanton post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that a 2009 Chrysler Town and Country was westbound on the turnpike near milepost 37.1 at approximately 1:58 p.m. when the driver, Daniel Kopplin, 68, of Pewaukee, Wisc., lost control, drove off the left side of the roadway, and struck a guardrail.

Kopplin and a back seat passenger, Kevin Kopplin, 39, of Grand Fork, Minn., died at the scene. A front seat passenger, Andrew Kopplin, 36, of Germantown, Wisc., was transported by EMS to the Fulton County Health Center with non-life threatening injuries.

All of the occupants wore seat belts.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Wauseon Fire Department, Delta EMS, Ohio Turnpike maintenance, and the Fulton County Coroner’s Office.

The accident remains under investigation.
