The unemployment rate in Fulton County fell slightly in March, according to data released Tuesday by the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services.
In March, the unemployment rate was 5.6 percent in the county, which is down from 5.8 percent in February. The rate sat at 6.1 percent last March.
The estimated labor force of Fulton County in March was 23,200, according to the data. The numbers showed 1,300 unemployed.
In Lucas County, the unemployment rate fell to 5.7 percent from 5.8 percent in February. Last March, the jobless rate was 5.8 percent.
The estimated labor force of Lucas County was 212,300 with 12,100 unemployed.
Among the state’s 88 counties, preliminary March 2016 unemployment rates ranged from a low of 3.6 percent in Holmes County to a high of 13.4 percent in Monroe County.
From February, unemployment rates increased in three counties, decreased in 82 counties, and did not change in three counties.
Seven counties had unemployment rates at or below 4.0 percent in March. The counties with the lowest rates, other than Holmes were: Delaware and Mercer, 3.7; Auglaize and Wyandot, 3.9; and Hancock and Union, 4.0 percent.
Five counties had unemployment rates above 9.5 percent in March. The counties with the highest rates, other than Monroe were: Morgan, 10.1; Noble, 9.8; and Jefferson and Meigs, 9.6 percent.
Those counties are in the Appalachia region of the state.
Ohio’s unemployment rate was 5.1 percent in March 2016, up from a revised 5.0 percent in February. Ohio’s nonagricultural wage and salary employment increased 18,300 over the month, from a revised 5,475,500 in February to 5,493,800 in March 2016.
The number of workers unemployed in Ohio in March was 294,000, up 9,000 from 285,000 in February. The number of unemployed has increased by 4,000 in the past 12 months from 290,000. The March unemployment rate for Ohio was equal to the March 2015 rate of 5.1 percent.
The U.S. unemployment rate for March was 5.0 percent, up from 4.9 percent in February and down from 5.5 percent in March 2015.
