Swanton’s new village administrator is eager to get involved in the community. Rosanna Hoelzle, a Toledo resident, will take over as administrator next Monday.

“Beyond becoming acquainted with my co-workers and working as a team, I look forward to familiarizing myself with Swanton as a whole, to meeting residents, and to actively taking a role in the community,” she said.

Hoelzle will take over administrator duties from Edward Ciecka, who has been serving as interim administrator following the resignation of Jon Gochenour on Aug. 21. Gochenour took a similar position in Waterville.

Hoelzle sought the Swanton administrator position as it offers her new challenges and she believes her education and experience are well suited for the needs of this position. Hoelzle said she has a passion for public service.

“I sought this position as the needs lined up well with my passions, experience, and education,” she said. “It looks to offer new and exciting challenges.”

Prior to taking over in Swanton, Hoelzle is the Assistant to the Township Administrator of Perrysburg Township, a position created specifically for her upon her graduation from the University of Toledo’s Master of Public Administration program. She has served in that position for five and half years. Prior to that, she interned at Perrysburg Township in the Planning and Zoning Department. Her last day in Perrysburg Township is Friday.

Hoelzle said that in her position at Perrysburg Township, she handled a variety of different projects and tasks. She worked to improve operations and worked cooperatively with other staff members to provide quality seamless services to the residents of Perrysburg Township. She said she is confident her proven track record, as a local government leader in Perrysburg Township, will continue when she takes the helm in Swanton.

Having not yet started in Swanton, Hoelzle does not yet have any specific goals for the village.

“Overall the main objective is to work collaboratively with the mayor, council, and village staff to provide exceptional service to the residents of Swanton,” she said.

Hoelzle is a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in Toledo. She received a Bachelor of Arts in History from John Carroll University in Cleveland. Upon receiving her degree, she spent a year of post graduate volunteer service, through the Jesuit Volunteer Corps: Northwest, in Portland, Ore., working in a non-profit which provides social services to low income and houseless individuals.

“Rosanna has an impressive educational background,” said Swanton Mayor Ann Roth. “Also, her seven years experience in an Assistant Administrator’s position was very important. Becoming the administrator of a municipality is not a position that you want your candidate to ‘learn on the job’. She had the necessary experience, including police and fire administration, along with knowledge of grant writing.”

Hoelzle, her husband, and young daughter live in Toledo. She is eager to get involved in the community and meet residentsso if you see her around town or at events, feel fee to stop and say hello.
