‘God, Flag, and Country’ announces winners

Saylor McNally, a Park Elementary School student, receives a plaque after winning the God, Flag, and Country Contest.

Saylor McNally and Sydney Schauwecker took title wins at the Fifth Annual God, Flag, and Country Contest held Feb. 6 at the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2597 in Delta.

Saylor, a Park Elementary School student in Swanton, edged out Leigh Morris of Delta Elementary School and Emma Majewski of Evergreen Elementary School in the 10-11 year old contest. Sydney took the 12-13 year old title. No students signed for the 14-15 year old division.

Every student received a certificate and a “God, Flag, and Country” pin. First, second, and third place winners won plaques, and the Delta American Legion presented American flags to each first place contestant.

The contest is open to 10-15 year old students from Delta, Evergreen, Swanton, and Wauseon, along with Holy Trinity Catholic School in Assumption, St. Richard Catholic School in Swanton, and home-schooled students in those districts. Delta FOE is the only aerie to hold a contest in District 14, so Saylor and Sydney will represent Delta and the district at the Zone Contest in Defiance on April 16.

Saylor and Leigh will speak at the district meeting March 13 at Delta. Sydney will also perform in the high school play that afternoon.
