Two area men were killed in separate vehicle crashes last week in the Swanton area.
Jason Babcock, 27, of Swanton was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Friday at approximately 7:05 a.m. in Swancreek Township.
A 2004 Dodge Ram pickup, driven by Babcock, was traveling east on County Road B when Babcock lost control of the pickup as it crossed the intersection of County Road 2, according to the Toledo post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The pickup ran off the right side of the road where Babcock overcorrected. The pickup re-entered the roadway, crossed the centerline, and traveled off the left side of the road. The pickup struck a utility, and overturned.
Babcock, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The passenger, Paul Cook, 18, also of Swanton, was not wearing a seatbelt. He was flown by air ambulance to Mercy St. Vincent’s Hospital. Alcohol and speed are being investigated as causative factors.
The Patrol was assisted at the scene by Providence Township Fire & EMS, Swanton EMS, Mercy Life Flight & the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office. The crash remains under investigation at this time.
Last Monday evening, a Delta man was killed in a one-vehicle accident in Swancreek Township.
Jacob Baldwin, 24, was driving a 1989 GMC Sierra northbound on County Road 4-1 at approximately 5:22 p.m. when he lost control and went off the right side of the road, according to the Toledo post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The vehicle overturned and struck a tree.
Baldwin was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a safety belt.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and the Delta Community Fire Department assisted at the scene.
The crash is being investigated.
