The OSU Extension Annual Corn & Soybean Day program will be held Friday, Jan. 22, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Founders Hall at Sauder Village Founders Hall.
Topics will include: managing soybean cyst nematode in Ohio; water quality and phosphorus management; new herbicide tolerant traits and weeds update; nutrient management for forage and pasture; and improving yield and water quality with nitrogen timing.
Featured speakers will include OSU Plant Pathology Department Chair Terry Niblack, USDA-Agriculture Research Service representative Kevin King, and OSU Weed Science Department representative Mark Loux.
The program includes a variety of speakers and nearly 30 exhibitors sharing information on management practices for the 2016 crop production season. Attendance will fulfill the three-hour requirement for private pesticide applicator recertification and the two-hour Ohio Fertilizer Applicator Certification and Training (FACT) required for those with a pesticide license.
In addition, exhibitors from seed and input suppliers, banking, crop insurance, grain marketing, and the machinery industry will be on site to share information about products and programs.
The following continuing education credits for pesticide applicators are offered throughout the day: private – three hours including Core and Categories 1, 2, and 6; commercial – three hours including Commercial Core and Categories 2A, 2C, and 2D; Michigan – three hours; and certified crop advisors – 4 hours total credit including IPM, NM, and SW.
Pre-registration, which includes a continental breakfast, lunch, and materials, is $35, and should be postmarked by Jan. 13. At the door registrations are $60, and are available on a limited basis.

The OSU Extension will also offer a class on Basic MS Excel © Applications for agriculture on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 10 a.m.- noon, at the Robert Fulton Ag Center, 8770 State Route 108 in Wauseon.
The course will be for those with limited or no experience with spreadsheets such as MS Excel ©. Content will cover formatting cells, basic formulas, and inserting simple graphs/charts, all while using agricultural examples. Participants are required to bring their own laptops with MS Excel pre-loaded – ideally, version 2007 or newer. No computers will be provided.
